【Proposal】Call for Dual PhD Candidate between NTHU and IIT Hyderabad

IIT Hyderabad is one among the 2nd generation of IITs started by the Govt. of India. The very foundation of IIT Hyderabad is based on research and innovation. The vibrant research culture is evident from the number of patents and publications that IITH has. At IITH students are given with a plethora of choices, which they diligently choose with the help of a faculty advisor. 

IITH in the past couple of years has been highly successful in building tie-ups with leading academic institutions around the globe. IIT Hyderabad siged the Dual PhD Degree Agreement with NTHU, devoted on cultivating talent researchers jointly. In the meantime, IITH enjoys a very special relationship with Japanese Universities and Industries that goes beyond academic and research collaborations.

IITH is creating a unique holistic educational ecosystem that offers interactive learning, a highly, flexible academic structure, cutting-edge research, strong industry collaboration, and entrepreneurship. It is providing an environment wherein students and faculty are not afraid to translate their dreams into realities.

【Outgoing Student——from NTHU to IIT Hyderabad】

1. Please do complete the NTHU internal application. The schedule roughly：

(1). Submit the Application form to DRC, NTHU through email or hard copy (which the advisors have to be comfirmed)
(2). There are about 30 Professors interested in collaborate with NTHU. Please refere to we Website→ Intl Collaboration→Potential Collaborators→IIT Hyderabad
(2). Based on the agreement, Students will get stipend from IITH and should get the travel fund from NTHU. The advisors at NTHU can recommend studnets to International Visiting Scholarship（國際訪問獎）, Pilot Program（領航計畫）, or Dual Degree Scholarship（雙聯獎學金）
(3). OGA will forward the recommed list to IIT Hyderabad
(4). IIT Hyderabad will confrim the name list
(5). Students should fillout the required information on IIT Hyderabad
(6). Students prepare the visit (visa, insurance, housing, vaccine)
(7). Arrival （please aware of the policy related to COVID-19 quarantine）

【Incoming Student——from IIT Hyderabad to NTHU】

Semester in NTHU

Fall Semester (1st Semester): September – January, Deadline of Application: around March 1 (IIT Hyderabad Program)
Spring Semester (2nd Semester): February - June, Deadline of Application: around August

1 Find Advisors
  • Find one advisor at each University
2 Plan Your Dual Degree Program
  • Confirm the rights and obligations (Stipend, Insurance, Visa…, etc.)
  • Determine the enrolling & studying semesters in NTHU
  • Registration duration requirement:
    • Master: registration with NTHU for least 1 year (2 semesters) *
    • Ph.D.: registration with NTHU for least 2 years (4 semesters) *

* registration on paper. The shortest staying duration in NTHU depends on the agreement.

Home University
  • Complete the administrative and nomination procedure at Home University.

Apply

to NTHU
  • The Home University send the list of candidates to DRC
  • All nominations must be submitted by the student coordinator of the Home University. Students are not allowed to apply themselves.
  • Required documents:
    • 1_Application Form - Incoming
    • 2_Release of Personal Information Agreement (as attached)
    • 3_Completed Individual Candidate Agreement or related documents
    • 4_Motivation Letter
    • 5_Transcripts 
    • 6_Supporting Documents
    • The e-signature is acceptable for the documents above.
  • Deadline:
    • The Application Form has to be submitted to DRC at least 6 months before the candidate arrives NTHU physically. Candidates from China should apply 1 year before physically visiting NTHU.
    • The deadline of the Application is around Feb. and Aug. every year.
  • Acceptance
    The review will take around 1~2 months. DRC will notify the candidate the decision of NTHU.
5 Prepare for Studying abroad 
  • DRS will help the candidate for the registration with NTHU (for instance: providing required documents for Visa application, latest regulation of COVID-19, information regarding health insurance…, etc.)
6 Arrive NTHU
  • Arrival
    Students for Fall Semester have to arrive at NTHU before the mid Sep.
    Students for Spring Semester have to arrive at NTHU before Feb.
  • Registration (a health examination is required when you arrive NTHU)
