【Information Forwarding】 Regulations on Foreign Nationals Engaged in Bartending Work

Key Points of the Announcement:

  1. Scope of Work:
    Foreign nationals engaged in bartending work in Taiwan are recognized under Article 46, Paragraph 1, Item 1 of the Employment Service Act as professionals with specialized skills. The permitted job responsibilities include:

    • Preparation of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails
    • Providing technical guidance and training in cocktail preparation
    • Designing drink menus and pairing with food menus
    • Teaching and consulting on bar management and operations
    • Customer service, experience design, and related activities
  2. Qualifications for Foreign Nationals:
    Applicants must meet the criteria outlined in Articles 5 and 8 of the "Qualification and Review Standards for Foreigners Engaging in Professional or Technical Work under the Employment Service Act." In addition, they must fulfill at least one of the following conditions:

    • A minimum of two years of bartending experience in a bar or restaurant
    • Receipt of an award in an internationally recognized individual bartending competition (see the Ministry of Labor’s announcement for details)
    • At least one year of bartending experience in a bar or restaurant that has received an international award, or having served as a bar supervisor (see the Ministry of Labor’s announcement for details)
  3. Qualifications for Employers:
    Employers hiring foreign bartenders must:

    • Meet the requirements of Article 36 of the qualification standards and hold valid business registration for a hotel, restaurant, or bar
    • Comply with Article 37 of the qualification standards
