From Culture Shock and Communication Killers to Better Connection

Moving to Taiwan is an adventure, but adjusting to a new language, culture, and way of life can also bring unexpected challenges, especially in our closest relationships. When our backgrounds, habits, and expectations are different, how can we stay curious instead of jumping to conclusions? In this talk, we'll explore culture shock, the Four Horsemen of relationships (Four Communication Habits That Hurt Relationships) from Gottman, and simple, practical communication tools that help us better understand ourselves and each other. Whether you're in a relationship or simply hoping to build healthier connections, we'd love for you to join us for an open, welcoming conversation!

In This Talk, We’ll Explore:
01Stay Curious Across Cultures
Let’s talk about culture shock and cross-cultural adjustment, and explore how culture shapes what we expect from relationships and communication. Learn to replace assumptions with curiosity.
02Spot the Four Communication Habits That Hurt Relationships
Get to know Gottman’s Four Horsemen:criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling. And notice the communication patterns that can slowly push us apart.
03From Conflict to Connection
Take away simple, practical communication tools to express your feelings and needs, work through differences and conflict, and find your way back to each other.
